Public transport in Paris (Navigo)

Use a Navigo Easy card for single tickets, or subscribe online to the Imagine R student pass (401.30 euros a year, payable in 9 instalments) if you are under 26.

Being verified:Two corrections to EPITA's slide. The Navigo Easy card costs 2 euros, not 2.05. The registration link in the slide is out of date; use the Île-de-France Mobilités link on this page. Also check the exact age rule for Imagine R in the pass conditions.

Before you start

Pick the option that fits you.

  • Navigo Easy: a card you buy once and load with single tickets. Good while you decide.
  • Imagine R Étudiant: the student pass, for students under 26. Registration is online only.
  • Navigo pass: for people over 26. You can register online or at a RATP agency.

Imagine R can be paid in 9 monthly instalments or in one payment. Your pass runs for 12 months from the start date you choose (1 September to 1 January). Applications for 2026-27 are accepted until 30 April 2027.

  1. Buy the card once for 2 euros.
  2. Load tickets at a station or on your phone with the Île-de-France Mobilités app.
  3. Use it on metro, RER, buses and trams.

Paper tickets are being phased out. The official site says they stop being usable on 15 December 2026.

Imagine R: steps

  1. Create your account on the Île-de-France Mobilités subscription site (link above). Use your French postal address.
  2. Choose Imagine R Étudiant.
  3. Add your documents: a recent photo, and your school certificate or student card. The site accepts a certificate in French with your name and the school year. You can add it later if you do not have it yet.
  4. Give your bank details if you choose to pay in instalments. EPITA’s slide asks for French bank details.
  5. Wait for approval. EPITA’s slide says online applications take up to 10 days.
  6. Once approved, you receive or activate your personalised Navigo card and load the pass onto it.

Common problems

  • No school certificate yet. Start the account and add it later. You get it from the Student Portal once your CVEC is validated (see the CVEC guide).
  • Pass does not start when expected. Choose the start date carefully when you subscribe.
  • Old link from the slide. Do not use navigo.fr. Use the link on this page.

Imagine R Étudiant costs 401.30 euros for the 2026-27 year. That is 393.30 euros plus an 8-euro file fee. You can pay in 9 instalments. You subscribe online only, and applications are accepted until 30 April 2027.
